Hood Prop Installation and Care Guide

Hood Prop Installation and Care Guide

Installation Process:

  1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park your vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Ensure the front area, where you will be working, is clean and stable.

  2. Locate Latch and Striker: Identify the latch on the body of the vehicle (where the hood normally locks) and the striker on the hood (where the hood prop will attach).

  3. Pre-Attach Bolt and Wing Nut:

    • Before attaching the hood prop to the vehicle, first, thread the carriage bolt through the designated hole at the bottom of the prop.

    • Secure the bolt in place by tightening the wing nut by hand. Ensure it is firmly attached but not overly tight to allow for some adjustment when fitting into the latch.

  4. Insert into Latch:

    • Carefully position the bottom of the hood prop (with the pre-attached carriage bolt and wing nut) at the vehicle’s latch.

    • Adjust the positioning as necessary to allow the bolt to fit into the latch mechanism smoothly.

  5. Attach to Striker:

    • Gently lift the hood and align the top hook of the hood prop with the striker on the hood.

    • Carefully attach the hook to the striker, ensuring it is securely in place.

  6. Final Adjustment and Check:

    • Once attached, make any final adjustments to ensure the hood prop is securely holding the hood.

    • Gently test the stability of the hood prop. If there's any movement or instability, re-adjust as necessary.

By following these steps, your custom hood prop will be installed securely and ready for display at car shows. Remember, this prop is primarily for decorative purposes and should not replace standard safety mechanisms for hood support during maintenance work.

Care and Maintenance:

  1. Cleaning: For cleaning your powder-coated hood prop, it's best to spray Helkrafte Auto's Waterless Wash and Ceramic Detailing Spray onto a microfiber towel rather than directly onto the prop. Then, gently wipe the prop with the dampened towel. This method ensures effective, scratch-free cleaning suitable for powder-coated surfaces. For product details, please refer to the QR codes at the bottom of the page.

  2. Avoid Polishing: The hood props are powder-coated, so avoid using metal polishes or abrasive materials that can damage the coating.

  3. Storage: Store your hood prop in a custom hood prop carrying bag when not in use. These bags provide protection and facilitate easy transportation, particularly to and from car shows. More information is available in the corresponding QR code.

  4. Handling: Handle the hood prop with care, especially when attaching or detaching it from the vehicle to prevent any damage.

Safety Tips:

  • Never Force the Prop: If the hood prop doesn't seem to fit, don't force it. Double-check that you're attaching it to the correct parts of the vehicle.

  • Stability is Key: Always ensure the prop is stable before leaving the hood unattended. If the hood seems unstable, adjust the prop or do not use it.

  • Mind the Surroundings: Be aware of your surroundings to avoid knocking the prop or the hood, especially in crowded areas like car shows.
